Since communication and language are essential to living in community, the English as a Second Language ministry at First United Methodist Church McKinney will promote, encourage, and nurture listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.©
Program Information:
Free English as a Second Language classes for adults
- Student minimum age: 18 years old
- Six class levels:
- Basic: Students with zero knowledge and use of the English language. Offered in the Spring semester, only
- Level 1 (Beginner)

- Students with little or no knowledge and use of the English language

- Level 2 (High Beginner)

- Students with some knowledge and use of the English language, but limited listening, speaking, and reading skills

- Level 3 (Intermediate)

- Students with a working knowledge and use of listening, speaking, and reading skills, but limited writing skills in English

- Level 4 (High Intermediate)

- Students with a strong knowledge and use of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English

- Level 4+ (Four Plus, Advanced)

- Students with excellent knowledge and use of listening, speaking, reading and writing skill in English. This course focuses on conversation and literature. No books required.

- Completion of each level requires two semesters of study

- Fall Semester – Mid August to Early December
- Spring Semester – Mid January to Mid May

- Classes are IN PERSON ONLY and meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm

- Additional free optional online tutoring sessions are available to regular students
- Regular classes are not offered online

Online tutoring sessions for most levels
If you would like some extra practice or help on your homework, we offer free online tutoring sessions for most levels. These online tutoring sessions are offered to our regular, in-person students, only.
Level 1: Mondays, 7-8pm, Jennifer
Level 2: Tuesdays,6:30-7:30pm, Sharon
Level 3: Mondays, 7-8pm, Julie
Level 4: Weds, 3:30-4:30pm, Rick Level 4+: Thurs, 7-8pm, Chuck
