March 11-16, 2012
Love it will not betray you
Dismay or enslave you, it will set you free
Be more like the man you were made to be
This line from the Mumford and Sons song, "Sigh No More" encapsulates our mission in New Orleans. We desire to love people, and in doing so, we hope they will receive the freedom God intended in their lives to be the people He created them to be. In doing this ministry, we mimic the actions of Christ:
Those who enter into Christ's being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous,
low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ,
like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air,
freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.
-Romans 8:1b-2 (The Message)
And so we go to New Orleans proclaiming freedom through love. This area is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina and other disasters, and needs a lot of help. We will be helping some families who are still trying to put their lives back together from the hurricanes, and we hope this work will allow these families to be the people God has called them to be. We will do great work for people who need it, and we will do it all in the Name of Jesus.
We will be working with an organization called Mission Lab (www.missionlab.com) who will provide our food, housing and projects. We will be staying in dorms on the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary campus.
We will leave early morning on Sunday, March 11, and return home on Friday, March 16.
This trip is open to all students in the 9th grade and above, and all adults. Students in the 8th grade may attend with a parent.
Go to the Mission Lab page and look at the tab "Getting Ready" to learn more about what to expect from this trip.
