Missions

We are called by God to serve our neighbors. There are many opportunities for service in our community and our world. The current needs of these organizations will be updated and shared via The Echo and the News + Events page. For current volunteer opportunities, visit our Volunteer Opportunities page. For more information on how to get connected with a mission, click here to email Pam Parmley.

Your generosity drives all of these missions. You can give through our dedicated missions giving portal and your money will go where it is needed most, or if you want to support a specific organization you may write its name in the memo field.

Feeding Friends & Families

Our congregation hosts a twice monthly drive-thru food distribution for families in need in our community. In partnership with the North Texas Food Bank, Community Lifeline, Baby Booties Diaper Bank, and others, we give out shelf stable food boxes, produce, bread, milk, and eggs.

You can help with your prayers, volunteering time and with providing food items for families who need it. Please contact Tami Lunn if you would like to be involved.  You can also click here to financially support this ministry!

Hand in Hand Homeless Ministries

This local mission is focused on partnering in support of “removing the lessness from homelessness.”  We work with Emmanuel Labor and the McKinney Emergency Overnight Warming Station.

You can support this ministry by making a donation, signing up to work at the warming station, or collecting supplies throughout the year.  You can also pack lunches with our Lunch Bunch on Thursdays at 10am (contact Caitlin for info).  Here is a list of items to donate for lunches.

Caldwell Elementary

Caldwell Elementary is a Title 1 school that is within walking distance of First Methodist. It is a wonderful school and McKinney ISD’s only dual language school. We are blessed to work closely with Caldwell to support the faculty and students.  There are many ongoing events that need volunteers!

Our congregation is engaged with Caldwell in many ways – from mentoring, to gardening with the garden club, to cutting things out for teachers, to providing backpacks and school supplies. Please visit our Caldwell Page for current needs and opportunities!

Each year, the hospital receives thousands of children who are suffering from TB, HIV, and other diseases. For more information, click here.

Hope of the Pokomchí is an international outreach mission that serves indigenous communities in the mountainous region of Alta Verapaz in Guatemala. One of our most important programs is Building My Horizon, which provides young Pokomchí children an after-school program teaching and reinforcing biblical values, English language instruction, and computer sciences.

Keep an eye on our News and Events page for information on upcoming trips to Guatemala, or support our team with your giving.

Since 2013, First Methodist McKinney has been working with David and Cindy Ceballos to minister with the Ngnobe-Bugle in Panama. We have team members working on construction projects, doing medical education and testing, and offering Vacation Bible School to the children.

Heifer International works in 21 countries around the world to strengthen local economies and build secure livelihoods that guarantee a living income to local farmers. To learn more about all the ways Heifer supports people, click here

As a Church, we support Heifer International every year at Christmas. It is a great way of giving an alternative gift as you can “give” someone a goat, sheep, pig, or even bees!

As the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Committee on Relief  (UMCOR)  assists United Methodists and churches to become involved globally in direct ministry to persons in need. UMCOR comes alongside those who suffer from natural or human-caused disasters – famine, hurricane, war, flood, fire or other events—to alleviate suffering and serve as a source of help and hope for the vulnerable.

First Methodist supports UMCOR through special giving, gathering supplies, and working at one of their distribution centers as a mission trip.
