In our community

Every follower of Jesus has a role in God’s life-changing work all around us. One of the central beliefs of Methodism is the connectedness of mission and service. Mission is about becoming a person who is meaningfully engaged in the community as a follower of Jesus. First United Methodist Church of McKinney has devoted itself to many years of service to its community, both at home and abroad.  The members of our congregation are involved in a variety of serving opportunities in our local community.

3e McKinney

The purpose of 3E-McKinney is to engage and equip community focused churches to channel their resources (funds, time and people) into Older McKinney in order to bring glory to God, hope to the impoverished, make a positive impact on all aspects of community life, and empower families to achieve emotional, spiritual and economic success.

Adopt Caldwell Elementary

FUMC, in partnership with 3E McKinney, has adopted Caldwell Elementary, a Title I school in the McKinney ISD. This new mission of the church offers an opportunity for all church members to get involved in serving the needs of local children. Many different opportunities are available to help. You can be a room parent, mentor, buddy, coordinate a six-week club or help in the classroom, workroom or library, just to name a few. Before you are able to volunteer at the school you are required to fill out an online application with McKinney ISD. Click here for application.

Children and Community Health Center (CCHC) of McKinney

Opened in 2004 by our own Mary Nelle Cummins with support from many church members, CCHC is a community-based effort to deliver basic healthcare to the underserved residents of McKinney and the surrounding areas. These services are provided with compassion and dignity through a free clinic staffed by volunteer healthcare professionals supported by community volunteers.

Community Food Pantry

This non-profit outreach program provides food to families and individuals in need. FUMC holds a food drive for the Food Pantry twice a year; however, volunteer opportunities are available year-round.

Community Lifeline

This agency offers emergency financial assistance to families in temporary crisis situations. This support includes, but is not limited to, rent, mortgage, utilities, food, clothing, gas, dental, medical and prescription assistance.

Habitat for Humanity

Working towards the conviction that every family should have a decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety, FUMC has helped build homes since 2002. Through donations of volunteer time and finances, we are making a difference in the lives of families in Collin County.

Samaritan Inn

This non-profit organization has helped thousands of homeless people in Collin County regain their independence with comprehensive programs and the help of caring individuals and corporations. The Samaritan Inn is the only homeless shelter in Collin County.

Emergency Disaster Relief

From supporting hurricane victims to regular support of UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), FUMC is active in providing aid in times of crisis due to natural disasters.

Mission McKinney

One week each summer, the youth of many churches in McKinney come together to paint houses for community members who are unable to do so due to physical and financial reasons. The participants, both youth and their adult sponsors, are required to pay a fee to cover supplies and they dedicate their mornings all that week to this service project.
