Jubilee

Jubilee Meets in C200 @ 9:00 am

Our Mission

Jubilee is a Bible-based study group committed to providing members with weekly Biblical Studies and views that are consistent with United Methodism. We supplement our weekly studies from time-to-time with contemporary based studies or information sessions that enlighten our understanding of the community, country and global perspective as Christian believers.

Who We Are

We are one of the larger classes at FUMC-McKinney primarily made up of adults 45 and older. However, adults of all ages are welcome. We use a lecture format that incorporates group discussion.

Outside of Class

We support the Gateway ministry through some of our spirited members. We also participate in Stephen Ministries and the Guatemala Mission and provide financial support for UMW, Youth Mission Trips, and other needs that arise.

Mission Activities

First Mission Opportunity for 2012

Our new mission committee chairs, Jerry and Patti Sanders, have offered us our first mission opportunity. We will be supporting the purchase of a video projector for missionaries in Jerusalem. The Awal family is working in Jerusalem and the group of travelers going to Israel next week will be meeting them. The Awals have sent a list of office and school supplies that their mission is in need of, and this item is on their list. If you would also like to supply smaller items on an individual basis, things like pens, tape, sticky notes, etc. are always needed and appreciated. Bring them to church this Sunday.

Lydia Patterson Institute

The Jubilee Sunday School class is organizing a mission trip to El Paso, TX to visit the Lydia Patterson Institute.  Earlier this summer, a student from Lydia Patterson who was spending a summer internship with FUMC visited our class, and generated interest in organizing this trip. The trip will likely be in 2012, but keep this item on your calendar and in your minds as we prepare do go to be the hands and feet of God.

Other Opportunities

Caldwell Elementary School has been adopted by our church, as you all know.  They are always in need of helpers, mentors, supplies and prayers. Please contact Marion Miller for specific information about ways to help.

Habitat for Humanity is supported by our church. We have completed a build this past fall and there are plans for an additional build next year (2012). Please contact Bill Calk if you are interested in participating in this mission.

Tushka Relief continues into 2012. In April, 2011, the tiny town of Tushka, OK was severely damaged in a tornado. A team from FUMC has made four trips to Tushka to work on projects helping individual homeowners get their homes back into a state of repair, and additional trip are being planned for 2012.  Please contact Mollie McCune or Dave Thompson if you are interested in participating with us this year!

Come to Sunday school on January 29 to hear our missions minister, Janet Cavalier and Mission Committee chairman Steve Bookout, introduce us to missionary supported by FUMC!

Joys & Concerns

Please continue to pray for Lynn Manley as she recuperates from surgery. Lynn would appreciate cards and phone calls, but does not need food at this time.

Phil Bober continues to need our prayers. He has been transported to a long-term care facility in Plano from San Antonio this week.

Kristin (McCune) Rodefeld's surgery was successful and she is back to work.

Please pray for several members of our class as they travel with a group from FUMC to the Holy Land!  Kelly and Rick Boatman, Jerry and Patti Sanders, and Mollie McCune will be leaving on January16 and returning January 25. Pray for a safe, fulfilling trip.

Also, Jan Elwell has a family member, Dale, who has just been admitted to hospice care. Please pray for him and his family as they travel this last journey together.
